MOS DEF initely an Interesting Experience

We heard some varied reports about the Mos Def show on the 29th of October. Apparently Mos Def was able to get enough steam going to play well over 20 minutes. The lack of an opening band seemed to leave the acclaimed singer at a loss for words or lyrics.

We tried talking to the Nocturnum and People Productions people about this show but they have yet to get back to us about just what happened.

But no worries, we have the inside scoop of just went down. We have discovered there were over 25 reasons for what went wrong behind the scenes at the expensive and strange show that Mos Def put on. And so you're up to speed on the lateset Humboldt County gossip here is what went down:

1. He gained an extra 5 pounds while he was in Humboldt County and he wanted to bolt quick.

2. Apparently his perception of time was drastically altered by events earlier in the day.

3. He was spotted feasting at both Porter Street and Big Pete's pizza at times between noon and 1 pm.

4. There was talk of some Humboldt Gold brownies being consumed for dessert.

5. A checkout at the local doctor informed him he had at least 420 conditions that required the use of medical marijuana.

6. Shortly after 2 pm, he had a close encounter of the green kind outside an Arcata dispensary .

7. He got pissed when he found out his show was actually in Eureka and not in Arcata, Pot City USA

8. Mos and the band decided there were too many uzi's in Arcata for his liking anyway.

9. They drove the tour bus right through a scary thick fog later that afternoon en route to Eureka.

10. At 3 pm Mos was seen at a local brewery drinking the unusually strong pumpkin beer this year

11.  Mos apparently had a disturbing and hair raising experience at the Tip Top club late in the afternoon.

12. A bit too much magic fudge was passed around by the crew en route back to Eureka.

13. When the bus pulled into the concert venue at the Nocturnum, street beggars hounded him for his gold jewelry.

14. After the sound check he came out to find the local hippies had mistaken his bus for their home.

15. He was scared shitless by a spanger when he tried to get off the bus for dinner.

16. Apparently he was also accosted by a mexican mafioso as he was leaving Bless My Soul.

17. By now Mos was already more excited to tell people he visited Humboldt County than to stick around and actually play.

18. Plus he had developed a massive migraine that required immediate medication.

19. All he had really wanted to do anyway was pick up a HUM sticker.

20. The official word was that he wanted to somehow play a shorter set than Talib Kweli did in 2002.

21. When he hit the stage he realized he was just a rapper and didn't have a single reggae tune in his bag to keep the crowd happy.

22. The poor guy was struck with a rapid onset case of Chronic Memory Disorder

23. Suddenly even all of his own lyrics began to get hazy on him.

24. All that was coupled with a bit too much pre-show fun in the dressing room.

25. And this entire day of madness ended with him realizing he had contracted a violent case of the Swine Flu that required immediate attention.

We hope Mos is able to come back and finish his set some day soon when he is a little bit more prepared for the Wild West scene that Humboldt County is rolling these days.
