Ferndale is a town in the center of the County. It is a little ways off of Hwy 101 where most of the other towns reside. On route to Ferndale you will pass by the famous Humboldt Creamery and the Humboldt County Fairgrounds. The annual Humboldt County Fair is held at this location where high stakes horseracing occurs for 10 days each year. The entire town of Ferndale is a historic place due to it's overwhelming Victorian architecture. There is a small but quaint strip that houses many stores, cafes and restaurants and is lovely during the holiday season. Closeby towns are Fernbridge and Petrolia (over the hills). The mouth of the Eel River also flows to the pacific close by the city.
